Faroe Islands has so many walking routes and hiking trails that it becomes impossible to choose which one is worth your time. It becomes tough to decide when there are few days for you to stay on this island. It isn’t difficult to walk in the Faroe Islands but it gets tough to deal with the ever changing weather and with muddy trails which are not properly market even. These islands are situated at north-west of Scotland at a distance of 320 km. the total area is approximately 540 square miles with average population of 50,322 as per 2017 records.

Kallur Lighthouse:
The northern head of the island of Kalsoy is filled with red, rustic and white lighthouses. This unreachable structure assists the ships moving around the land from Atlantic Ocean. The island’s beauty is enhanced by the stunning scene around the lighthouse which attracts visitors. A bit of effort is required to reach this elevated spot therefore you must walk behind an unmarked trail passing through verdant fields. If you come across sheep along the way it is a sign that you are going in the right direction. The lighthouse is a unfavorable breeding place for European petrels, Atlantic puffins and black guillemots.

Sorvagsvatn Lake:
The largest lake in the Faroe Islands is the Lake Sorvagsvatn also named as “the lake over the ocean”. This is because it creates an optical illusion of hovering directly above the ocean. Although in real, the difference in height between the ocean and lake is of 30 meters. At the end of the lake is found the striking and beautiful Bosdalafossur waterfall. There is a clash between the people of Sorvagsvatn village and nearby town on the name of the lake. The latter would call the lake “Leitisvatn” whereas the people of Sorvagsvatn village feel honored in naming the lake after their home.

Mykines Holmur:
Out of the 18 main islands of the Faroe Island, the one situated on the western most side is called Mykinesholmur. The only accommodation on the island is known as Mykines. It I included in the UTC-1 region as it is located at 7.5 degrees west of Faroe. Like rest of the island, Mykines follow the Greenwich Mean Time. Valley Korkadalur is located on the northern side which has great basalt columns. The western side of Mykines contains a 1 km long islet called Mykinesholmur where in 1909 a lighthouse was constructed.

Saksun:
Saksun village is close to the northwest coast of the Faroese Island. It lies at the base of an inlet of the sea, covered on all sides by huge mountains. This inlet became a natural harbor until it was blocked by storm sand. This became an unreachable sweater lagoon which is only accessible on high tides by small boats. The village contains a museum and a church. This church was initially built in Tjornuvik until disassembled in 1858 and reassembled again in Saksun.
